The Oakmont Yacht Club holds its place as the oldest inland Yacht Club in the United States.  It is an elegant landmark in the Pittsburgh community, picturesquely situate on the banks of the Allegheny River, 13 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh, where the Allegheny River joins the Monongahela to form the Ohio River. It still has the same vitality today as it had when it was founded July 4, 1903, by C.V. Tiers and a group of friends who were devoted to boating and club activities. That same tradition continues today at the OYC.

Commodore's Comments

May News - The spring and summer weather is coming at last! Our boat docks are in as well as Fox Chapel, Lighthouse, One Particular Harbor and Brackenridge. Gas is going to be expensive this summer and if we still want to go on boating excursions each weekend, we may want to rethink our options. Many of us have boats with large living spaces that we can share with others. One of the ways that we may still boat each weekend is to invite friends along one weekend and then go on their boat the next. (Of course, this leads to the idea of how compatible are we and what they will look like in the morning!).

Thus, the 1rst Annual Pajama Party at the OYC!!. We had prizes for the sexiest, scariest, and the more original. Terry Cyphers, Betty Connelly, Jon Ostrowski, and Sherri Eakas were the judges. The judging of the scariest was easy - Mike Ferris makes one 'coyote ugly woman". The sexiest was harder to judge with Carol Cupec as the winner and Kim Ferris as a close second. The most original was won by the flannel pajamas of Tracy Connelly. Chris Lacomy was runner-up. We found that it was not what the pajamas looked like but what went with them that counted. A good time was had by all.

Our New Member Wine and Cheese Social was well attended by the general membership. Thanks for all those who participated in the April events.

Next up is our Anchor's Aweigh Party on Friday, May 16th. Hope to see you there.

John Romick, Commodore
